As I watch the news, Google, YouTube, and social media, I am discovering more and more young women who love the Lord yet, are still ensnared by the enemy of this world and the affairs of this life. For instance, the club life, dating, fornication, drugs, alcohol, wearing sexy clothes, vulgar mouths, listening to and dancing to worldly music, watching television shows or reading books that glorify extramarital affairs and illicit sex (like “Scandal” and “50 Shades of Grey”)…yet still profess Christianity ever-so-boldly (see 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5). And yes, I must go there! Is this really how we want to represent Christ? We’re called to be set apart. I mean, unfortunately, these things are being glorified in the daily newsfeed, conversations, and life for that fact? But the question that I really want to ask today is this, “Where are the godly mentors?”

And not just that, but where are the mentees who are hungry and thirsty for righteousness and who want to grow stronger in their walk with the Lord? I know they’re out there. So…where are the older women in the church, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and the community who are willing to stand up and help this younger generation live out the truth? It’s time out for foolishness right now. Jesus Christ is coming back soon, and He will be looking for a righteous, pure, holy bride without spot or wrinkle. It’s time to get serious ladies.

The Bible says in Titus 2:4-5, “These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to take care of their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.” And 1Timothy 2:9-10 says, “And I want women to be modest in their appearance…For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.” Pause and consider these Scriptures.

I write this to say, that there is a great need for more godly women mentorship more now than ever before. I am concerned that without it, many young women will become more and more deceived and desensitized to this way of living and not be ready for the soon return of Christ. We must remain and help others to be sober and alert while keeping our garments (lifestyles) clean until He comes. First Thessalonians 5:4-6 says, “But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief…so be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and stay sober.” (NLT)

In these last days, we simply cannot profess to be Christians, yet still live a life of habitual sin and assume that we are living a life that pleases the Lord. It’s an oxymoron and we’re only kidding ourselves if we think that God is okay with it. Galations 5:19-21 says, “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce these evil results: sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, idolatry, participation in demonic activities, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, the feeling that everyone is wrong except those in your own little group, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other kinds of sin. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” (NLT). If you are living this way or know a young lady who is, then repentance and asking God’s forgiveness is in order.

Listen sis. I am not speaking only from passion, but from experience. I am a product of godly mentorship. Quite frankly, I was actually a spiritual mess without it. I remember hanging out in the clubs, going to happy hour for a few drinks with friends, having sex when I wasn’t married, yet all the while, singing in the choir on Sunday morning (after hanging in the clubs all night), going to women’s ministry bible studies, writing for the church’s newsletter, and cursing like a sailor when I was angry. Until one day, Jesus woke me up and showed me that I was living a life that was not pleasing to Him. I needed change…I needed a mentor.

Through prayer, God sent me one… a true woman of noble character (read Proverbs 31). And not only did she walk through life with me by means of late night chats, prayer, counsel, and the Word of God, but she also lived the life of Christianity before me. As my mentor, she exemplified genuine godly character in her marriage, motherhood, friendships, ministry, speech, and deed. Actually, due to her influence & guidance, I can truly say that our relationship has helped change and shape my life for the better.

Today, at 37, I am now a woman in ministry leading other youth girls and young adult women to live a life that pleases the Lord. That’s my life mission. But I would’ve never been able to do this without the help of those older women who have gone through before me. So I challenge you reading this post right now. Who are you? Are you a mentee or mentor? If you are a younger woman and don’t have a mentor, I encourage you to pray and ask God to lead you to a true godly woman to help lead you in your life as a growing Christian. Furthermore, search out blogs, conferences, music, movies, social media outlets and friends that will enrich your life for Christ. And if you are an older woman, whether a mother, aunt, grandmother, pastor’s wife, minister, community advocate, blogger, author, Facebook or Twitter lover…I encourage you to allow your godly influence and leadership to shine as a beacon of light for this generation…because you are definitely needed in the field. Don’t miss this!

Remember, Jesus is coming back soon! And those who endure unto the end shall be saved. So let’s get ready from the Inside Out!

    • Hi Ashlie,

My heart goes out to you sis. I will be praying for you that the Lord brings the perfect mentor for you. The Bible assures us that “if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our heart.” As I can see, you desire to be closer to Him and do right according to His Word and I think that’s awesome…keep pressing! I also see here that you desire to have a mentor…someone who can walk through this Christian life with you and help you to be all that God desires you to be. The key is to “delight yourself in Him.” Keep praising Him, keep going to church to continue growing in His Word, and love those around you with everything within you. He’s able to help you do this. Be encouraged sis, you are called to be a light in this dark world. Do everything you can with the power of the Holy Spirit to do that, and don’t let anything or any person stop you from reaching your purpose and destiny (heaven).

And don’t you love it when God confirms His Word and heart message to you. I love it! You know I almost wrote in this post about the Scripture you referenced in regards to even the devil believes that there is one God. It’s in James 2:19 which says, “Do you still think it’s enough just to believe that there is one God? Well, even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror! Fool! When will you ever learn that faith that does not result in good deeds is useless?”

We sooooo have to get this as a body of believers. Amen! Thanks so much for writing sis. May God bless you with His strength to endure this race with joy, love, and His amazing peace and presence.

      Love,
      ~Courtnaye
